Kalla & Sigi Heimstädt took over the farming business on Arcadia from Sigi`s parents, Claus &
Inge Muhl, in 1985. With this we had the fortune to start with a well adapted and fertile herd
of commercial cattle, being a cross of Simmentaler and Brahman.
We have been breeding Simbras since 1986, shortly after the Simmentaler Breeders Association of
South Africa developed the new cattle breed. The decision on Simbra was easy, with the established
commercial Brahman-Simmental herd and the positive characteristics the two parent breeds would bring
along. The Simmentaler with the high milk production and its growth ability and the Brahman with its
adaptability to the warm and dry conditions of Namibia and its short hair. The Simbra breed had all
the potential to prosper, even in the Sandveld of Namibia.
Since then we strive to produce productive, fertile and well-adapted Simbras. Only the most fertile
cows are used in the stud herd and only the best +/- 10% of the bull calves are selected as sales bulls.
A proof of our very fertile cow herd are the various awards we received, during the years..... 2nd
most star cows in 2007 in Southern Africa, best Simbradex herd 2008 in Namibia. The average Simbradex
for our 213 stud cows in 2009 was 96 and their average ICP 386 days. At the moment we have 18 Star
cows in our herd.
